Introducing even better map visualisations, a map dashboard and much more. Keep reading to discover what’s new!
Yes, that’s right: we are once again releasing a bunch of new features for you to enjoy. Inspired by practical research ideas and future projects, Maplix Studio 1.1.0 is here to empower. Curious to find out what we have been up to? Those working with survey results on the map lately might have already seen it: our map and image analytics dashboards got a real makeover. Create and share your own beautiful maps in a jiffy, and even add existing geospatial data or other survey results to sharpen your story. Ready to put your research on the map. Literally.
Extended map analytics dashboard
The power of geographical data lies in the way you can represent it, doesn’t it? The visualisation of your map can make a world of difference to share your data in an understandable way and tell your story to others. That’s why we improved our map analytics dashboard, enabling you to get even more creative with your survey data. No need for GIS-expertise. Create beautiful maps within our application like a pro. Easy-peasy!
We have improved the way you can create maps and analyse survey results in several ways. Starting with an empty map, you are free to add as many data layers as you want. What exactly is a data layer? Simply put, it’s a collection of geographical data that you can categorize under the same legend category. Adding survey results in a data layer to the map is easy. For example, looking at the images below, if you choose to visualise all traffic bottlenecks under one legend category, simply select all the bottleneck sublayers you want to add to the data layer and give them an appropriate legend label. Alternatively, you could choose to add only one bottleneck to that data layer, or even a combination of geometries from different map pages from your survey. Get creative!
In addition, you can add more data to your interactive map than meets the eye at first sight. You can choose to set the appropriate zoom levels for each data layer. Indicate exactly at which zoom levels you want the data in your data layer to appear on the map. This feature comes in very handy when visualising a lot of data together on the map, as it prevents chaos and data overload. Clear map, clear story.

Next, we created a range of new and more flexible styling options for your survey data. Per data layer, you can choose to style each sub-layer separately, or style your entire data layer as one. The choice is yours. Personlize your styling by choosing a colour, thickness, transparency or upload your own icon. Read all about our styling options here. You can also choose to use a built-in style like a heat map or cluster map (for point geometries). For each style, it is also possible to assign conditions. These allow you to display the data within your data layer according to your own liking. Maybe you only want to display survey data of people over 60? Or style routes according to transport mode? It’s up to you.
Finally, we made it possible to add survey data from other Maplix surveys you’ve conducted to your map. By merging different survey results, you can easiliy integrate and compare geospatial input provided by citizens to strenghten your map story. Happy mapping!

Add spatial data from other sources to your map
Want to display your survey results on the map in the context of other datasets? We made it possible. Add other geospatial data sources to your map to reinforce your collected survey results. The combination of survey data with existing and objective data sources ensures a comprehensive analysis and correct interpretation of map.
Adding spatial data to your map in Maplix is possible trough a Web Map Service (WMS) url. This global data standard allows you to easily get access to published geospatial datasets online. It’s easy: add an open WMS weblink to your map when creating a data layer and your done. Many organisations put their datasets publicly available online as a WMS. Think about traffic counts, road works, administrative boundaries, important points of interest or even entire map baselayers. The advantage? No need to download or style your data first. Your WMS data layer is automatically styled and updated when the data changes, through the automatic connection with the data provider’s database.

Share your maps on a personalised weblink
It would be a shame to create beautiful maps and keep the results to yourself, right? That’s why you can now share your maps with others online, by publishing them, in multiple languages if needed, on a personalised url. The result? An interactive and full-screen map, which is updated automatically with survey results that come in over time. This way you keep both your colleagues, stakeholders and even your survey respondents informed about the results or progress of your survey.
An interactive map offers quite some flexibility. Enjoy yourself, and play with the data on the map: tick off the legend items of the data layers you want to see, zoom in or out, search for a location, or change the base layer according to your liking. In addition, every map item holds more information than meets the eye. By clicking on an item on the map, a pop-up box appears, allowing you to discover all the answers given by respondents about that item. Uploaded pictures by respondents are displayed in this box as well. A world of information is just a few clicks away.

Allow respondents to follow their survey progress
Nobody likes to be left in the dark. Respondents also like to know what they are up to when filling in a survey. That is why we added a progress bar to our surveys. This way, we can increase the engagement of participants and enlarge the chance that the survey is fully completed. Win-win!

Remove respondents from your dataset
You get full responsibility over the respondents in your dataset. Did a respondent not fill in the survey properly? Maybe you only want to keep the responses of those who fully completed the survey? Or did you yourself complete the survey a number of times as a test? Kick out respondent data as you wish.

Download or print your survey as PDF
Would you like to share your survey questions with others offline, save it on your computer or print it out on paper? We made it possible for you. Download your survey as PDF in Maplix Studio, and you are good to go.
